Each individual contributes daily to a safer internet, so awareness and cultural change are the first steps in making the internet secure in the business environment as well.
Among the main challenges faced by companies in this issue, data security stands out. However, difficulties and potential failures can be minimized by meeting the requirements of the LGPD (Brazil’s General Data Protection Law), ensuring greater security of data, whether sensitive or personal.
Additionally, there are other measures that can be adopted on a daily basis to elevate the level of internet security within companies.
- Digital security policies:
Custom policies with rules guiding actions and behaviors in the company’s digital environment minimize the challenges encountered in corporate digital security. Remember that these policies need to be easily accessible for reference whenever necessary and all employees should be aware of them.
2. Two-factor authentication:
The mechanism that is increasingly being used to enhance security is two-factor authentication, especially in financial services, social networks and other applications. This extra layer of protection makes unauthorized access more difficult and sometimes even prevents it, thanks to notifications through SMS, WhatsApp, and email.
3. Public Wi-Fi:
Avoid using open signals or public Wi-Fi networks to access company applications or strategic information, as hackers can digitally position themselves between the point of emission and the end user, collecting data. If your company provides Wi-Fi in public areas, make sure it isn’t the same network used for performing tasks, logins and general activities.
4. Home Office:
Currently, remote and home office work modalities have become increasingly common. Therefore, it’s essential that the organization’s online security be planned. Ideally, employees should be advised that all measures taken by the company in the physical office should also be adopted in remote work settings. For example: two-factor authentication, avoiding public Wi-Fi, following digital security policies, changing passwords periodically, among others.
5. Keep software updated:
Continuous software updates not only optimize the interface, modernize layout, or provide new features but also contribute to internet and software security for companies by keeping up with security-related innovations.
Other basic measures should also be considered, such as installing a good antivirus, blocking sites that may install malware or any other types of viruses, performing frequent backups and restricting unnecessary software for daily activities.
Finally, we remind you that you may have the best internet security practices, but if there are no training sessions and dissemination of information to your employees, they will not be effective.
